dual_enrollment Sequoia Choice Arizona Distance Learning offers dual-credit (i.e. high school and college credit) for many college-level courses. These courses are taken through local community colleges. The number of college classes allowed will be determined by the Sequoia Choice director of student services. To find out if you are eligible to start taking early college credit courses or if you are eligible to continue taking such courses, please see the criteria listed below:


  • currently a junior or senior in high school
  • a *full-time student with Sequoia Choice
  • provide proof of consistent, quality academic progress during freshman and sophomore years
  • obtain passing scores on the ASSET/Accuplacer tests
  • receive prior approval for each college course
  • ensure the college course corresponds to high school graduation requirements
  • meet the standard on all areas of the AIMS test
  • earn a minimum college course completion grade of C
  • maintain high school GPA of 2.5 or better
  • show consistent progress towards a high school diploma

 

Sequoia will assist in paying for classes for full-time students, up to a limit of $1,000 per semester, which will include tuition and books. Students who do not receive a C or better in a course will be asked to refund tuition to Sequoia Choice. Parents will be asked to sign an agreement to this policy prior to their child being allowed to register for a course. Certain restrictions will apply. Ninth- and tenth-grade students will be allowed to register for college courses with prior approval from the Counseling Office, provided they obtain passing scores on the ASSET/Accuplacer tests.

 

A student/parent wishing to register early for college classes prior to the posting of AIMS scores and final semester grades may do so. However, he/she must agree that if the student does not pass AIMS and/or does not continue to meet the enrollment requirements set for college credit by Sequoia Choice, he/she will pay the cost of withdrawal procedure from the college OR will pay the cost of the class(es).

 

A community college may limit the number of semester hours in which the student may enroll.

 

Students may be admitted on an individual basis with the approval of college officials if the student meets the established requirements of the courses for which the student enrolls and college officials determine that the student's admission is in the best interest of the student.

 

Please note the following:
Arizona Revised Statute 15-1. Admission to the community colleges in this state shall be granted to any student who is under eighteen years of age and who achieves a composite score of 930 or more on the SAT or a composite score of 22 or more on the ACT.

*full time = 25 hours per week minimum attendance
